becoming an entrepreneur in Finland as a foreign

Post by gabriellaparete » Tue May 13, 2014 5:48 pm

Hi all,
we are a group of exchange students at Aalto University School of Business and we are researching about opportunities and problems in opening a business in Finland as a foreign entrepreneur (in particular non EU-member). If anyone want to share his/her experience it could be very useful for us!
For example, is easy to get the permit? Is the taxation system heavy comparing with other countries? Is the language a significant problem?

Thank you all in advance!

You knoow, there is a saying in Finland, everyone has an expertize except business graduates, you only have the notion to use others to make money.
You should write your own thesis.

You know what the "international business" graduate said to the "engineer" graduate when they met a week after graduation?

-Do you take large fries with that?

Basically, only people who come "entrepeneurs" in Finland ate stupid people without a degree or stupid foreigners. Anyone been taught business does the SWOT analysis and knows they have no chance. Or they go to Estonia or elsewhere to establish the business. Because when the tax office kills you, the Finns lose everything and are in debt for life without any chance out but suocide, but the foreigners can bugger off back to where they came from...

No, its the foreigners "think". Have you watched "Lilyhammer".. I want to start a bar...

Foreigners do not "know". Like if you come from the USA you do not "know" there is no such thing as "personal banktrupcy"...

"Stupid people"... Lets put it this way, theres educated people and not so educated people in my family and the people with the "lets start a business" have come from the side usually kept in the back room at the farm..

*Other Finnish Lemonade Stand owners, quick, speak up now and correct my misconception, and while you're at it tell the rest of us how to earn millions?
You need to turn over a billion to make a million, the system of business is like a European medieval knight.

You see the horse, the knight , his splendor.

What you dont see is the stable, the undergarments , the handlers, the rust proof'ing, the cooks, the manure cleaners etc.
You need all that stuff here just to run a clean operation.
You need so much crap here , you need space for all that crap, a budget.

We dont need SWOT in AUSSIE because its a waste of time, time i could have spent making the money already, but here, better to do your SWOT because if you dont have a manure cleaner , your getting fined.

Finns love entrepreneurs, but they dont love foreigners making money from them, theres a difference and when you come to collect the money from them, thats when you see it!
The secret to business here is turnover, turnover so much that even a small gain profit is substantial.

This is where creativity separates the foreigners I suppose
Theres a better saying that you need to remember if you decide to strut .
"Dont let the Finnish guy think, he will become dangerous" unless your on the same team, then give him time to think, he will become dangerous to the opposition!
