Hi,
I am going to study at Helskinki Metropolia from August to December. I am coming from England and am not sure what kind of coat I need to bring. I have a ski coat, but not sure if it is warm enough. Some people have told me to buy coats such as Canada Goose, but i am not sure if that is too much and they are very expensive.

in helsinki by the end of december it might barely be below zero. so nothing different to england (outside). Since the air is dryer it does not feel as cold as in england for the same temp.
In august it could still be +30 although it does not have the same humid feel of +30 in england.
Inside in winter everwhere will be dramatically warmer than in England and substantially dryer too. Towels actually dry out in the bathroom when you hang them up, all by themselves!!

Its mostly going to be windy and raining, snow doesn't really come and stay until January. So whatever you would use in the UK. One you can fit a couple jumpers underneath.
