Residence Permit extension

Hi,

My son's residence permit is going to expire in two months. On the immigration website, I tried to get an appointment but the available date is after three months. Is that going to be an issue for us? (because one month will be without a valid visa.). My son is only one and half year old and was born here. Second question is that is it going to be an extension or a new RP because the previous one will be already expired by then?

You can go to any police station. Is there another nearby? You also have the right to go to the police station and queue:

If you let a permit expire, then it's a new RP. You should try to avoid this though.

At Pasila poliisi I was told that extension of my researcher residence permit would take approximately 5 months. Does it really take that long in Helsinki? Last year I was in a smaller town and they did it in 2 weeks.
