Residence Certificate?

Post by infinite_jest » Tue Jul 15, 2014 9:19 pm

Hello all, long-time lurker finally registering.

I'm trying to get on the waiting list for one of the rental apartments from the city of Helsinki (Stadin Assunot) and they demand some sort of certificate of registration (oleskeluluvan rekisteröintitodistus). Now, as an EU citizen, I already registered when I first moved in, several years ago, but I can't recall receiving any actual document, only that it was necessary to get my ID number, Kela card, etc.

I don't think I'm supposed to go and fill the registration application all over again; is it possible to get a document from the police that states that I am, in fact, registered as a resident? The online services are an unspeakable mess, and after navigating the site for hours I was none the wiser.

If anybody here has been through a similar fandango, any help is appreciated.

That requirement is a new thing. I'd give 'em a call and ask what they want from EUsian who has lived here for years.

They should have the information in the computers systems so filling again shouldn't be needed. However, browsing around the police website I did not come across any instructions on requesting a new copy of the certificate of registration. I would call the police directly and ask. The number can be found here:

Thanks, all. As a matter of fact, the police reissued the certificate for me with no fuss at all. I have the feeling that Kela kept my original copy -- all this was arranged by Human Resources at my first job, and I had little idea of what was going on at the time.
