How to carry money while travelling out of Finland

Post by livingthing » Mon Jun 30, 2014 10:21 pm

Hi,
I am traveling out of Finland to Asia. I was wondering how much cash I can carry with myself and who (which Customs) is concerned about it the most ? Is it the country from where I am departing, transit or the destination country ?
If someone thinks that its not a good idea to carry cash then what are the cheap alternatives ?

Pay for things with a credit card. For the times where a credit card will not do, stick it in a cash machine locally and get a cash advance.

I have only had trouble when going to Iran and credit cards are not valid there and so you must take cash in with you (US$).

You have to declare more than 10 000 euros in Finland.

Custom rules vary by country to your general reference to Asia is not enough to say about your destination.

Credit cards a usually good (have a few of them, check that none is expiring during the next few months), but "Asia" is bit too generic for detailed instructions.

Depends where you are heading to but paying by credit card or bank card can be difficult sometimes. Withdrawing money is an expensive but safer option. I would suggest you a mixture of carrying cash and using cards. Think carefully about the place to keep your cash.

Put your money into your finnish account and withdraw it in target country from bank atm.

The 10 000€ limit is an EU rule, not specifically a Finnish one.

The 10000 eur limit includes travel-checks as well . If you need to transport more - just declare that , if you have procured that cash legally there will be no problems for that

I would have thought that be a difficult task. The dog caught 13 00 euros, but presumably you'd want him to let through at least most of those that a few thousand with them.
Is there a different scent for different denomination? Or is just that a new bills have clear scent that old ones don't?

Hi.
I do not know the fact but the article says that the dog went through a very extensive and hard training. Obviously 3000 euros and 13000 euros smell different. Since a dog
can distinguish about 10000 different smells, seems it's not impossible to separate from 3000 to 13000.

If it is the same kind of notes, it is the same smell, just different strength (and the strength would be influenced by other factors like wrapping as well).
