Table top gas hob
Table top gas hob

Anyone seen any of these floating around anywhere in Finland? I'm struggling to find them even on Amazon. I'm sick of the electric hob we have in this apartment. I might as well try to control the temperature with my mind, as the 1-6 electric dials are useless...
I actually have one of these (or at least quite similar):

It should be resonably trivial to put a gas cannister underneath and wire the tube through the table surface (it's thin enough to drill through with a friend's equipment).

I haven't seen any, but I'd hazard a guess that if you search for kaasuliesi in google, you should find plenty. And surely you have checked the regulations about gas installations? http://tukes.fi/en/For-Consumers/Home-a ... sinesses-/

Almost certainly they do what they are supposed to do, but sure they (traditional electric hot plates) are SLOW to react, if you're used to gas.Dean C wrote:as the 1-6 electric dials are useless

They are too much hassle to work with. And you can't use a wok on them..Rip wrote:Almost certainly they do what they are supposed to do, but sure they (traditional electric hot plates) are SLOW to react, if you're used to gas.Dean C wrote:as the 1-6 electric dials are useless

I've pondered if I would like gas stove when doing the kitchen anew, but I wouldn't want the hassle of hauling gas tanks around. I probably would get one if I had gas line coming into the house.

The problem with getting an integrated hob is that most houses don't have the gas line. Given how rare it is to actually have it anywhere (at least in downtown Helsinki apartments) I would hazard a guess that there isn't even gas lines *close* to most of the residential apartments...
Re: Table top gas hob
Downtown Helsinki I thought was one of the few areas with gas lines.

Re: Table top gas hob
We also crave a gas hob, but have found a compromise with a similar one like this: http://www.gigantti.fi/product/kodin-tu ... keittolevy
Works well.

Yes, I had friends living in the centre of Helsinki in old flats and they had a gas line. So they do exist.
Gas is so much better to cook with. Nothing wrong with electric cooking, it has its pros and cons like gas.
I think in Finland the style of eating doesn't necessarily need the functions gas offers. Lots of Finnish food is slow cooking long time stuff like the oven stews, casseroles, soups etc.

Forget the gas, it's to much trouble if your apartment/house has no fixes gas pipes.
Instead go for induction.
