Driving in the US
Driving in the US
Somebody from the UK suggested to get an international driving license before I go to the USA and drive there. Is there such a thing available in Finland? How much does it cost to get one?

Thanks
It's a bit strange process. Why can't police issue directly? OK,may be workload. But issuing one against a valid Finnish license shouldn't increase much workload.

Because it is not a driving "licence" it is only a permit, in short it is only a translation of your (foreign to the Country you are going to) licence to enable it to be understood in various countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internatio ... ing_Permit

Hi.
Yep, you can get an international driving license from Autoliito at Hämeenkatu.
During several business trips in the US, I had only Finnish driving license with me and had no problem in renting cars and with police.
Once I drove from Atlanta to north and around that area. At one time a cop car appeared behind me and I was stopped.
I was speeding all the time while others were speeding only sometime.
The cop let me go after a little chat, telling me not to speed too much. The Finnish license was ok.
Maybe it was my luck.

Basically its just a translation into foreign languages, it isn't anything official as such. When you get it, theres pages in chinese and arabic etc...
