Volunteer Fireman

Post by Alex.Sm » Fri Aug 08, 2014 8:16 am

Hei,

Does anybody know what are the requirements for doing volunteer fireman work? I am thinking to do it maybe once a week or month or something like that. I have been in the field so I know the drill :lol:

For full time firemen it's;
- Finnish citizenship
- fluent in Finnish and/or Swedish (depending on the area)
I suppose it will be more or less the same for the part timers plus;
- playing an instrument to participate in the VPK marching band. :mrgreen:

In mayor cities the volunteers are at best a back-up for the full timers (replacements during long lasting fires, safety patrols during events).
In the countryside you'll have to be available 24-7 (during your duty period).
You also have to pass exams. Foreign experience doesn't count although it will make passing the exam easier.

One Helsinki area vpk site (in Finnish) welcomed any reasonably fit adult, noting also that they can also people that can fix things, do administrative work or is good with camera. Of course there are tests to be passed before possibly going to building in fire.

Contact the local VPK and ask.
