Child car seats

Post by geekgirl » Sat Aug 02, 2014 2:50 pm

Hi , I can't seem to find any clear information regarding the safety regulations of child car seats expiry dates here in Finland. Most European countries are very vocal about expiry dates ( TV ads etc),yet tori.fi are selling secondhand car seats that are over 10 years old and therefore unfit for purpose In my eyes and most people I know ( and the manufacturer recommendation) What are the rules in Finland as hubby a Finn doesn't understand why I am so against our children being in second hand car seats and even people selling over 10 year old seats gets me really angry .thinking Finland is more relaxed ,but what about the safety aspect ? Any links or info would be appreciated thanks.

I doubt there is any restriction for selling between private individuals. Somebody could try check how many deaths or serious injuries there have been for babies and small children in a car. More difficult would be to estimate how many if any of them could have been prevented by newer car seats.

What happens to car seats after ten years that makes them unfit for purpose?

Is there some specific data or study that backs up these statements and puts the risk into context?

If sunlight is a particular hazard, surely you can add another few years on over here! :)
