Re: Finnish Passport Validity
Its due to the biometrics. Don't know if its an EU/Schengen thing, but the advancement of technology/features makes the passports obsolete quicker, and the forgeries are a problem so they are in a constant battle.

Re: Finnish Passport Validity
To be honest I never had a chance to get any ID with validity longer then 5 years except when I converted my driving license to Finnish one, the validity is until 2051 or something like that and I called to police and asked if that's normal or a mistake. I always had ID card and passport with 5 years validity. And also the Finnish passport with 5 years. So quite normal for me this rule.roger_roger wrote:Things are getting weird in Finland, I though they only decided to decrease the validity period of the Driving license, but no, Passport too.
Why is Finnish Passport valid only for 5 years?
It used to be valid for 10 years previously, I don't see good reason to change it to 5 years, unless govt. asking for people to spend twice on same material which they could buy with the price of one.
