According to the paper, 2014 Prius loading capacity is slightly smaller (446l) than Corolla sedan (452l) (exclude Auris Tourer Sport aka station wagon version). Both of them are nowhere near Avensis's capacity: 509l for sedan and 543l for wagon , even ridiculous 1609l for wagon version with fold flat rear seat. I used to rent a 2013 Avensis for a week last summer (yes, I'm Toyota fanatic  ), actually its fuel consumption is quite great: mixed driving 6,5l/100 km 1.8l engine petrol-manual transmission. So I guess Corolla's number in real life should be about 5,8-6,0 l/100km
From my experience, the seating position and the roof in Prius is bumped up quite a lot, make you feel quite roomy inside, but actually cargo capacity is not that massive due to slap hatch door shape and under-floor battery compartment.
I will look for one in near perfect condition with fully documented service history and I'll make sure it has a set of fresh brakes
Prius owners never replace the brake assembly except when they definitely have to do that. So, Prius with new brake equal it's already in pretty bad shape or high mileage/ years old. Probably you should stick with mildly used Prius (4-6 years old or less than 150 000km) to make the most of its component remaining lifespan.

Anyway, good luck with your hunting. If you have any question regarding Prius, please ask
By the way, the next gen (4th gen) Prius is coming in later 2015, promised 10% better fuel economy + many new gadgets, I'm feeling very tempting about it :D . Then price of used 2nd 3rd gen Prius will drop dramatically.

With interior space I ment the amount of space for the occupants. I have no need for a large trunk.
And it's quite amazing that the Avensis you drove got 6,5l, good job Toyota! But I really like automatic gearboxes and I guess an Avensis with automatic uses slightly more gas.

But thanks for your advice, Hopefully I'll find my "perfect" Prius soon
