Current Taxation Rules - Importing Autos & Goods

Post by jschu02 » Sun Aug 24, 2014 4:48 pm

All ~

Greetings to all the FF regulars! Okay folks, I know this is a tired subject, but where can we find the latest, updated official Suomi rules on importing personal cars and other personal goods as part of a job transfer? In early September we (okay, she) will have a Helsinki-based job offer to consider and we are weighing all of the options. Already have the budget established, know the salary necessary and now we are putting together the actual move costs. :)

As of this morning (Sunday Aug 24 2014) my Suomi-bride said that, according to the Finnish Customs website links I had found from the FF, they were proposing dramatic changes to the import taxation rules (no more freebies!), but that the information on the website appeared to be several months old and she was having a hard time finding the latest, current information (in Suomi of course). She even indicated that they were proposing an import tax on personal goods! Yikes! Can you imagine someone taxing my old Nokia rubber work boots 'n stuff? :?

If not a website, who could she call tomorrow morning? :?:

Thanks in advance!

J.J.

"but where can we find the latest, updated official Suomi rules on importing personal cars and other personal goods as part of a job transfer?"

Well, if you want to know how the horse fares, maybe the horse itself?
www.tulli.fi

Which "better site" you imagine there is that magically updates before their own site itself ( except of course the FF :D ) ???

Yes, theres been speculations/plans to scrap the car tax allowance, but its in the government budget and the cabinets' not come up with the proposal yet, it requires a whole lot more cow trading.

It is not guaranteed it becomes reality, but the ministry if finance, budget proposal for 2015 lists
"muuttoautojen verotuen poistaminen" as one of the changes effecting next year.

As you see, its a "proposal", so theres a lot of wheelin and dealin in the cabinet and parliament before it would then pass as a law/act. Then the Customs will get their new guidelines. Then theres going to be someone complaining, a court case...

But yeah, unlike Israel it seems Finland is passing a "law of no return".
