I think I've seen them sometimes at the US import shelf at Citymarket, but I'm not 100% sure.

Fair point. But it does suck if the fabrics are glued together after drying in machine. Not a problem when hanging though.anna.g wrote:*messing with other people's business*
Don't use softener, it's an unhealthy chemical which is designed not to wash off during rinsing and therefore comes in contact directly with your body and can be adsorbed by your skin.
Companies producing them don't have the legal burden to prove they are harmless (although that may change in a few years due to REACH regulation), the State has the burden to prove they are unhealthy and for the moment there are more pressing matters.

Don't just take my word for it, but can't you simulate the effect by putting a bit of glycerine on a rag and tossing it into the dryer with your clothes? That should be cheap to buy at the pharmac-- uh, apothecary. And maybe eco- (and iho-) friendlier, too.
Someone told me once that dryers cause the lint you find in the filter, proving that tumble dryers wear out your clothes; but most of the lint actually comes from the wash cycle. You see that by drying smooth black clothes in a drying cabinet after a mixed-colors wash -- or by wetting and centrifuging clothes without a wash cycle before putting them into a tumble dryer. The first show lots of lint, but the second leave significantly less lint than usual in the filter.

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

I never use fabric conditioner or softener but I do use those spiky balls in the tumble dryer. They also reduce the drying time. These pics are from Amazon but you can buy the balls in Gigantti and probably in other places too.

Just remember to have proper ventilation in room that gets the added moisture content. I know of cases where old neuvostokuutio has been first made tight with tape and better seals in windows and doors and then started to wonder why there is mold.Cory wrote:Sold our dryer 6 years ago in favour of using the heat radiating from the floor in our wet room. Increased the life of our linens and clothing and greatly reduced our electricity bills. Most probably will never own a dryer again. (I know this has nothing to do info requested by the OP but thought it worth a shot to remind people that there are options for drying clothing/linens.)
