The resident permit would also be applied from the police. The police can delegate to Migri but I am not sure if there's anything special about this case to do so. For a spouse of a Finnish citizen figuring out how to eat means figuring out how to fill the forms to get the welfare benefits. Income support can kick in quite quickly after registration.

but, i was thinking. surely they can't ask you what your income is? I don't mind showing. but i don't really like people knowing how much money i really have. i am a very private guy in real life.

will they ask to see proof of how much i have in my bank? if i have to do it, its cool. but, it just sounds a bit weird.

Both most or at least large fractions of social benefits and foreigner registrations are income tied one way or another. More a Finnish specialty I think is that here even the tax records (the most important numbers) are public too.

So if you plan to register here based on being able to support yourself, yes you'll need to show the money.

If you wan't to keep it secret you're a billionaire, that is fine with police, as long as you show enough. With tax office that is more difficult (legally)

i was speaking to someone from the helsinki consuler or something, and he/she Was saying long as you're married, you will need no proof of money.

is that true?

if you apply for a residence permit as a family member of a Finnish citizen, you do not need proof of income or assets. The experiences seem to vary a bit if they handle the family member registration (if you're an EU citizen with a Finnish spouse) analogously. (We had some discussion of that topic at the start of the thread).

Well, reachthesky, don't ever drive or get involved wit the police, or you actually want to prove how much money you have.

Did someone just get a clue-by-four hit?

Lets ask this - you buy a flat - is it yours?
