Which UAS for IT?

Post by HerraMopsi » Sat Aug 09, 2014 2:46 pm

Hey,

I intend to obtain a B.Eng in Information Technology from one of the Finnish Polytechnics. Would love to hear from people who have attended those institutions, or are familiar with their reputations.

Things that are important to me are the quality of teaching (In English) and the likelihood of finding reasonably priced accommodation (600-800 euros, no roommates) within realistic distance from campus. Would prefer to avoid student apartments.

Currently I am leaning towards Mikkeli UAS and the one in Turku.

Quality of teaching? Stay away from Vaasa.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Simple question Simple answer:
A basic student single appartement in Mikkeli costs 400 Euros. Why would you avoid a student appartement!
I don't know about other UAS but the quality of teaching in MAMK is good. Environment of studies is great.

No roommates or no flatmates? There were actually student housing where you shared the room where you slept with another student when I was a student, but that is about twenty years ago and I thought those had vanished since. If one wants no flatmates either, then getting into the cheap student housing is more uncertain. With that price range one should in principle be able to find something from private market, maybe even within Helsinki area, and certainly outside it, but in practice you'd trying to find an apartment at the time of the year when not-so-surprisingly it is most difficult to find a small apartment in an university town - and you are foreigner and wouldn't be even be living here at that point.

Because they can be dumps! But you get what you pay for. Granted my knowledge is about one apartment in MOAS6 (most likely, can't be 100% sure) and only for few days.

Well... The places with high rep would be Metropolia and Helia, depends a bit which flair of stuff you want to do. Helia to my knowlege is the only place you can get COBOL and SAP/R3 and ABAP under your belt and major in System Analysis. But if you go to Nowheremäki to count them trees... find a fat girl for the winter

My personal experience with MOAS has been good so far, like you said you get what you pay for.
