Danish Hot Dogs - Bacon?

Post by harryc » Thu Oct 02, 2014 11:30 am

Has anyone found a shop in PK area with Danish hot dogs ( - and bacon)? I just heard a BBC program on Danish hot dogs - and was just wondering if they've gotten into Finland - I know there was one truck going around with ready product at a 'not nice price.'

Danish bacon has always been good - and as Finland has finally joined the bacon market in the last decade or two - so wonder if anyone has found that?

You can get Tulip bacon in most supermarkets, that is Danish. I have even seen "english style" Danish bacon.

Not seen Danish hotdog sausages in Finland, but here in Copenhagen there are lots ;)

No 'red' polse for the dogs - and Lidl bacon is unfortunately marginal these days - often 'off' tasting (was rather good 2-3 years ago).

Best I've had lately was K-Menu - very mild - not really very 'bacony' - but at least free of 'off' tastes. Wotkins somehow weird. HK - not really bad - but most expensive - mind you - those guys in early 90's came up with 'American' bacon - was NOT the sweet smoke hickory etc. but hard, aggressive ssmoke - called them and they said they had no knowledge of what American bacon might be but thought it good 'marketing' name - they've come to the 'sweet' smoke in last few years - but still not good - and certainly not related to ther price.

Lidl used to have "meetwursti" that was the distinct "danish pink for the german market", hence I thought it might be so. Their bottled hotdogs might have been Tulip. But as people get "used to" a certain thing newcomers imitate as it sells better, so it could be Polish. Which isn't bad, in my local Morrisons theres a wee polis section with all kinds of goodies like herring... If I wanted "old fashioned" stuff I'd go in winter with a freezerbox to Tallinn. Despite the economy, they still fo proper sausages and "siga"
