Hi everyone,
I will be writing my entrance exams at HAAGA HELIA next month and since I recently came across this forum I figured I would take this opportunity to fire away a few questions for those who have studied at their Porvoo Campus before. Firstly, is Haaga Helia a reputable university to potential employers? What differentiates a traditional university to a university of applied sciences? Is the student services department at Haaga Helia at all helpful in finding a student a job on campus? Are there any dorms or student lodging centers close by the university?
Also, I've applied for the International Sales/Marketing program as well as their International Business program, both entrance exams fall on the same day --- am I essentially writing the same entrance exams for both programs?
All feedback is welcome,
Regards,
IHC

If you manage to write entrance exams at two places that are 50km apart at the same time, you might of course notice that there are both similarities and differences between the two exams.
The university is of course not responsible for organizing student jobs for everyone. Any responsible university does of course say that you might not find any job.

You just hit the nail on the head!tummansininen wrote:In fact, the Finnish government expects that a foreigner with no Finnish will not find any job.
That's why students wanting to come to Finland must show proof of 7k euro in their bank account so that they will not starve.
For the OP , this days your degree does not make you, rather you make the degree worth useful. Comparing universities makes your expectations complicated at times.
People study from home, online and all sort of informal and formal educations this days and still graduate to feel up the rising numbers of unemployed around the globe.
The facebook founder and Bill Gates did cared less about the Havards', but made themselves worth useful.

There isn't a "campus" to start with. Theres scattered buildings in town. Ah, looks like they're on that new building with Laurea on "the other side" of the river. I wonder if they gave up the old "Ladies College" where the Tourism department was. Well, as it says on their pages, you need to apply with the student housing association, so put in an application. I still think Gammelbacka is a ghetto, but it might have gotten some new paint since 20 years I was a student in Porvoo before they joined up in with Helia.
Jobs on campus? What jobs? The kitchen lady? Theres no bloody jobs in the whole country if I've to believe the newspapers
