I'd go to "Halonen", maybe Itäkeskus. They usually have a "professional" and not a "salesman", the difference is the professional gives a dirty eye to you, walks to a rack, and pulls out something that fits. And they have a pretty good range, even in their sales rack. Otherwise I'd go to Koiso in Tampere or Keskinen... Its not Keskinen but theres a rag store over the creek...

That is if I was inclined to go... I'd check my size(s) and go onto ebay. German "Mmuga" has about 80 euro suits and from USA you get good stuff just remember Euro-10 and jeans waist size+6...

Say like
ebay.de 400793114922
ebay.com 321090136797 (yeah I know the shop name is slightly misleading  )

Or then where I get my kit http://www.brooktaverner.co.uk ...they even have a "Helsinki" jacket

Another vote for the sale skills of Halonen staff. If they find you a suit that seems to be cut in a modern style, it's only because it didn't sell first time round and might still be priced in markka.

Don't get caught into the trap of mail order trousers. I see them all the time:

At least the UK/US ones come in midgit/short/mine/unhemmed... The short is 28, regular 30 and long 33. I'd be about 32, but the 30 is too expectand for the oncoming tide?

Hmm.. are you 32 all round ? I mean from your inner alushousut to the ding dong bell? If so you must be luomu and having it so... big in between your legs. How come you do not have the girls jumping all over you? I am interested if you do care :ohno:

Thats the pants inner leg measurement in inches

Mens suit is usually "drop 6", but they offer usually +-2 in better places, so I go for a 50 Long jacket and 44x33 trousers... Euro sizes a Halonen 60C ... Or European/german 60-62... They do funny sizes in the "long" section its not always quite there. In UK they think 50 chest means you're a short round bastid, but you can get long sleeves.

& FYI my ding-dong bell's got a rotating top

You could try M&S - their menswear section is on the 4th floor of Sokos near the railway station. Try on in the store but it might be cheaper to buy online from the UK. Either way the value for money is good.

A friend mentioned dressman any thoughts?

Last suit i brought was 2008 in Melbourne area for 70AUD, robust 50/50 suit.Im not keen on 100%wool suits.
I cant buy online, im not average ,every suit i have has a bigger jacket/pants ratio.

Yeah, in that case I'd give Dressmann a try, IIRC they sold their stuff as "separates". It all depends if you intend to wear the suit "daily" or is it just a "sunday best" or "business one" for an interview. If you need to wear a suit at work, you might try get off with "combination", get a few comfy jackets and a couple pairs of trousers. Otherwise you need 2-3 suits and "rotate" them as otherwise they start looking baggy and horrid after a few months. Best in the winter is to put the suit on the balcony to air out and the moisture changes straighten it out - get proper hangers.

Then again, if I ever make it back, I'll raise a few eyebrows with something like this

Marks and Spencer's suits are sold as separates too. The only reason I suggested "online" is because the prices in their Sokos branch in Finland have a markup on the prices they charge on their UK website. Of course you can buy in-store as well. Anyway I think you'd get better quality from M&S than from Dressman. Dressman is cheap, but there is not much choice.

Well, I bought a navy pinstripe for 30£ online as separates... Shiney polyester and looks like a demob suit, which function it has. Emergency "brass visit" to hang in the office cupboard  Online has its challenges, but then again in the UK there is a lot more "office uniform" trend. In Finland its cords and sandals
