Hi Guys,
I am trying to figure out whether or not I'm meeting the criteria for Finnish citizenship (as they appear on Migri.fi).
I would appreciate if you could tell from your experience/knowledge about the process/terms.
So here goes:
1. I have moved to Finland in 2011 as a student, after living with my BF abroad (a Finnish citizen) - permit B (calculated as half the time)
2. In 2012, we got married and changed permit to A
3. After living 2 years together (and graduation from HU with a Master's degree), we decided it's better we split but still be married (as we are still a couple that simply lives in separate homes)
4. I speak Finnish quite fluently
5. I am working full time in a corporate for 2 years now.
What do you think - when can I apply for a Finnish citizenship, by mid 2015 (May-June) or later?
Residence prospect
Re: Residence prospect
Married is married. Living in different addresses might make migri to question the marriage. Quite fluently isn't enough, do your YKI.overJoyed wrote:Hi Guys,

Visa is for visiting, Residence Permit for residing.

Re: Residence prospect
First of all.. wow.
Secondly,
You need five years of residence, or 4 years if you have a Finnish spouse (must have lived together for at least 2 years for this to apply).
For a better answer, call Migri.

Doesn't look like it.overJoyed wrote:I am trying to figure out whether or not I'm meeting the criteria for Finnish citizenship

Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Greater than five (see below)tummansininen wrote:2012 - May 2015 is maybe 2,5 years or maybe it's 3,5... plus (0,5? 1?) year on the B permit... meaning you probably need more time on the A permit. The calculation is (A number of years) + (half of B number of years) = must be greater than four. All signs point to no, but you can probably go over it and check for yourself.
The marriage is already irrelevant because the law requires living in the same address. Migri will check this through the population register.tummansininen wrote: Migri might be suspicious that you only married for citizenship. Do they actually care how legit a marriage is? No idea. Migri pages don't really talk about it. Maybe all they do is check off each box. Or maybe you'd waste 350 euro. Maybe Migri's phone staff couldn't answer because it's a judgement call by the people who do the applications.
You could just work an extra year before you apply. Then your marriage won't even come into it.

Yeah, wait the 2 years, sit in Finnish class, take the YKI test (it doesn't go old)... and don't get speeding fines

Re: Residence prospect
This kind of marriage would not come in calculations but as you are working so you have grounds to stay here. But apparently you have to wait for some more time, meanwhile you can take the Finnish language test which shouldn't be any problem for you as you already know some Finnish.
