Medical internships for non-EU doctors

Post by ausstuddent » Sun Jan 18, 2015 5:30 pm

Hey,

I'm an Australian medical student interested in working abroad and was looking for some information.

I've read on the Valvira website that a 6 month internship has to be completed before anything else. Are these easy enough to find? Are they paid?

Thanks a lot

If you read more valvira pages you'll see that internship can't be completed before you can communicate in Finnish or Swedish.
"As a medical doctor or specialist, you must have sufficient spoken and written language skills to be able to carry out your duties. The official languages of Finland are Finnish and Swedish."
9 out of 10 will speak Finnish. How would you imagine doing your job without being able to communicate with your patients?

Hi upphew,

Thanks for the reply. I had indeed read that a working knowledge of Finnish or Swedish was a prerequisite. You are right, I couldn't imagine doing my job with anything short of fluency. I am still wondering though, whether these are paid internships or if I would have to find some other means of supporting myself.

Cheers

Can't be sure about your case. But local student's won't get their internships recognized unless they are paid variety. Amanuenssi seems to get about 1500€/month. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanuensis http://www.tlks.fi/p/show/170/Opinnot/A ... nssuurista
