Next Step in Applying?
Next Step in Applying?
Hi everyone,
So I have applied to HH for IB. I did not receive the confirmation email, which HH says is because I listed a Hotmail address. Anyway, what is the next step? Do I receive notification of being allowed to come take the entrance exam? If so, is that emailed or mailed or available some other way?
I haven't been asked for any documents yet either - is that standard?
I have this worry that I am missing something that will affect my admission. I have emailed the university but haven't heard back yet.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Next Step in Applying?
Read studyinfinland.fi and the university's admission pages. They contain every single information you need to know.
I don't understand how someone would make the decision of moving to a whole new country without being fully aware of the terms, conditions, and procedures of this move.

Re: Next Step in Applying?
I have read both of those in great depth, actually. No where does it state when or how you will be notified of the next steps. Considering I didn't get the promised confirmation email, I was worried I might have also missed another email detailing further information or a request for information.
Pardon me for asking for clarification on a message board intended for exactly that purpose. My mistake. That obviously means I have no idea what I'm doing or that I haven't done my research.

Yes, it means exactly that. That obviously means I have no idea what I'm doing or that I haven't done my research.

The entrance examination invitation is mailed to you. The entrance examination happens on the 21st of April, so you'll receive the letter before that. Also, yes, you're responsible to send the documents for your application, nobody needs to ask you. The deadline for submitting these papers is 13th of February.
P.S. I have used Hotmail when I applied long time ago, and it worked fine. Make sure they have your correct email address (give them your application number and write your email address), and also check your Junk folder.

Given that the first link you posted is on Haaga Helia's website (NOT studyfinland.fi) and the second is totally in Finnish, I think Gymstara was right to wonder where the info can be found. And you were not being very helpful or simply obtuse. Why the need to run everyone down?adnan wrote:Yes, it means exactly that. That obviously means I have no idea what I'm doing or that I haven't done my research.

@Gymstara PM me if you need any more info. I have been helping my son to do his applications this week so I might be able to answer your questions. I also found the interface very clunky - it is not particularly well designed. For example, ranking the choices could be so much easier.
Re: Next Step in Applying?
Just because I am having some trouble finding certain information that I am searching for, which is spread out on 2 websites, doesn't mean I haven't researched it. There is a lot of information and it isn't in one easy to reference place. I still do not see where it says anything about when I will be informed of admission to the entrance exam. I know when the exam is. I know where it is. I know that I have to take it in Finland on that certain date, that there are no pre-test materials to study, the points for each section, and the minimum scores accepted for admission for the last classes. I don't know when to expect the letter (or email.)adnan wrote:Yes, it means exactly that. That obviously means I have no idea what I'm doing or that I haven't done my research.

HH said themselves that Hotmail addresses are a problem (from their admissions department specifically after I asked about not getting a confirmation.) It wasn't in my junk filter either. The HH application stated not to send documents until requested. So it isn't a stretch to worry that if one email didn't go through, that I might have also not received a relevant email about documents needed or when to expect to hear about the next step. This place exists to help people, and it is the only resource of its kind. I don't understand the need to be rude to me. This is way different than applying to schools where I am from.
Thanks Rosamunda, I'll PM you if anything else comes up!

1. The first link: Yes it's on Haaha Helia's website. It's the university to witch he's applying. Of course he/she should read it! I mean, that's the least you'd expect when you apply to X university... to read info on X university's website.
2. The second link: It appears to you in Finnish because of language preference that is stored in the cookie not the link (bad website design). So simply click "In English" in the top right corner and the whole page will become in English. Difficult, isn't it?Read studyinfinland.fi and the university's admission pages
I'm being blunt and not 100% nice, yes. But unhelpful? Nope. I searched the information for him (did his homework), and then extracted it and posted it for him (the part of my comment which you didn't quote).

Re: Next Step in Applying?
That's what logical deduction is for. They can't send out the letters to all people on the same day, and letters don't arrive to people on the same day, not even in the same week. Some people are in Finland, others are in other countries, and the postal service takes time depending on your location. Thus, clearly, they cannot tell you when you're gonna get the invitation letter for the exam (which you only get if you're an eligible application.. an applicant who supplied copies of the needed documents).Gymstara wrote:I still do not see where it says anything about when I will be informed of admission to the entrance exam.
The last date for receiving the documents is 13.02, and the date of the exam is 21.04, so you'd expect to receive the letter somewhere in the middle. If you search this forum, you'll see that people have received the letters on completely different times. For example, I remember receiving my letter in the first week of April. Other friends have received it in the last week of March.
Please give me a link to the application where it says that.Gymstara wrote:The HH application stated not to send documents until requested.
Edit: Just to make sure I'm not being unreasonable here, I went and filled the HH IB application because I wanna see what you saw. Here you go
