health? transformer power station and electric towers
I now live in friisilä, Espoo. I found some big electric towers and a transformer substation in the west, which is about 300-500 meters away from my house. Does anybody know whether it is safe and healthy in a 300-500 meters distance from the towers and the power station? What is the capacity of the high-voltage lines, 20kv, 100kv or even higher? Thank you very much!

Why wouldn't it be safe and healthy? The lines won't drop on you from that distance. Most likely exploding transformer won't have effect that far.mingli wrote:I now live in friisilä, Espoo. Most likely the lines are 400kV: http://www.fingrid.fi/en/powersystem/ge ... fault.aspx

Radiation emitted from power lines and power stations is an EMF, a form of a non-ionizing radiation. It's similar to what your TV, computer, microwave, mobile, remote controller, etc. emit. It has been studied quite extensively and there has been no conclusive link between it and diseases such as cancer and others.
Here's an interesting video on non-ionizing radiations (not exactly power lines, but similar stuff):

Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.
Re: health? transformer power station and electric towers
When we moved to the same area in 2001 (our children were quite young at the time) we checked the internet for studies etc and read up on the subject and then bought the house and moved in. We did measure the distance from our house to the power lines and the pylons but I don't remember what it was (less than your distance though) and we were OK with it. We live next to the school...
A few years ago, one cable which ran between our house and the school was dug underground but it wasn't the main power line that goes up through Keskuspuisto.
We haven't noticed any dead animals in the garden and we even have three bee hives in our back yard which seem to thrive there.
