car insurance

Post by aannaa » Fri Feb 20, 2015 11:50 pm

Hello. I'm about to buy a car. I have already decided but the problem is that it is not insured now. They seller (a private person) told me that I only need to have the transaction contact and Trafi document and I will need to insure the car within 7 days. But I am actually not really sure if it can be possible to drive an uninsured car, and even if, won't I have to pay a fine for the uninsured period?
Today is Saturday, and as far as I know, no insurance agency works at the weekend, and I already made an appointment with the seller for the final deal.

I'll be extremaly grateful for a quick answer...

best regards,
anna

You mean the car has been decommissioned?

The owner doesn't drive the car so he stopped paying the insurance. The car has a valid inspection and the car is working perfectly. The owner told me he will register the car in Trafi today via Internet. I'm not sure if he has decommissioned it.

This is not something I have experience with, but if I read what is online correctly (and the text seems to be the same in Finnish and English), if it is decommissioned, recommissioning requires a valid insurance (and the insurance should have been paid if it is not decommissioned). Do not drive a car that is not commissioned and for which somebody hasn't paid the mandatory insurance lately.
