Speed Cameras - PK Area

Post by harryc » Thu Feb 26, 2015 2:45 pm

There was an article yesterday in one of the 2 'yellow rags' about where the speed cameras are.

I couldn't find the newspaper any more this morning --

Does anyone happen to recall the places where they are in the PK-area?

Thanks

do you mean fixed cameras or places where the vans with cameras often park? the fixed cameras are quite obvious since there are yellow camera signs on the roads with them in place. and in Finland they do not have the British/RSA habit of having the speed camera sign when there are no cameras on that section of road.
From what I see on places like Ring 3 the detection loops for the speed cameras are in lane 2 ONLY, perhaps on the assumption that those speed the most are in that lane. But I would not push my luck to test this theory. The vans.. I have seen them on various places most often lansivayla. beware of newish looking vans parked on the side with blacked out windows. they are not marked from the rear but I think on the side there is a police sign.

The article according to the headline I saw someplace referred to the Peltipoliisi - and the front page gave the idea they were going to tell the exact places inside the paper - but I didn't get a chance to look for the paper before today - and they had all been sent back.

So if someone saw the actual content.

Anyhow the unmarked cars - private looking - are probably the most effective - as they usually get the ones that are dangerous as well.

The only difference between fixed cameras and the van/car is that most of the navigators warn drivers about the fixed cameras but there is no warning for a mobile camera. Other than that they work the same way and do the same job.

There is simple speeding and speeding while driving dangerously by weaving, getting on top of others' rear ends, etc. Real police in unmarked vans and private cars can - and do - get those idiots first as they get the 'full picture' so to say.

It's rare in Finland that police is in unmarked cars hunting for dangerous drivers on the roads. When policemen want to keep an eye on drivers, they are in normal police cars/vans.

I happen to know one fellow who has been a 'mobile cop' in both marked and unmarked cars.

He has said that first 'priority' goes to pulling over those who are weaving, driving too close to preceding car, etc. ie dangerous drivers.

Those are are also the 'instructions' from up top.
