Entrance Exam - Business Information Technology Oulu

Post by Chapri » Sun Mar 15, 2015 8:52 pm

Hello everyone,

I would like to apply next year for the study Business Information Technology at the Oulu University OAS, though I'm not really sure what I have to expect of the entrance exam. The university itself doesn't give any extra information, which seems quite reasonable to me, though I still would like to know what the type of questions/discussions are. Since this is quite broad, no?
The entrance examination consists of the following three sections and is based on pre-reading material (min./max. scores):

Part A: a written assignment based on advance material (min./max. scores 3/10 pts.)
Part B: an assignment measuring mathematical/logical reasoning (min./max. scores 6/20 pts.)
Part C: a group discussion or an interview measuring study skills (min./max. scores 3/10 pts.)

Total points: 40 points (maximum)
I really hope someone can give me some information!

The description on the university's website is absolutely not broad.

- Part A: Scroll down a bit in the same page and you'll find the reading material. You read the 5 pages and in the exam you're asked questions about those 5 pages. Pretty standard.
- Part B: Basic maths skills, 1st/2nd order equations, simplification, etc. Plus some basic stuff from easy IQ tests.
- Part C: Honestly, what's there to explain here? Somebody from the program/admission sits with you and talks to you to see if you're an idiot or not... OR, you're in a room with your potential classmates and some teacher asks questions and listens to how you people discuss them.

I've never studied in that university, I've never studied Business Information Technology, and I have no insider information. All I know is what I deduced from the same place whence you've gotten your quote http://www.oamk.fi/english/studies_and_ ... nce_exams/
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Thank you

I've never taken any general exam before, that's why I wanted to be sure.
I find logical reasoning quite broad by the way, it could be mathematical or linguistic, but I guess if you put it in the sense of an IQ-test it's a bit of both.
I had already seen the lecture, but thanks anyway (:

I've thought about it last night and I think broad may not be the right word and that my question maybe wasn't completely the right one to ask for the response I needed. My question is rather what type of questions there will be. Will it be multiple choice or open? And will they ask questions about the text, questions you can solve using the information in the text or a bit of both?
