Res permit extension situation
Res permit extension situation
My wife has to be in her home country to finalize her masters thesis and she will be gone around 3 months(Total).
Her A-permit expires within that travel time.
I need to find an email address to someone who knows how to get around this problem. Poliisi or Migri !
Im working all the time and searching for the email address just did my head in.
So i posted in the only place that seems to get the job done.
Ps. not keen on visiting a immigration police station only to be meet with a unhappy worker who wasnt sure of the exact facts or allowances.
Anyone?

You want to hear what you really want to hear - not open to live in reality.
Everyone's time is as precious as yours and when you are talking about authorities - their time has more valuable and there attitude is not meant to deal only one person in their job but everyone - no one gets a VIP treatment unless he/she is a VIP - if so - they have pawns and rooks to assists.
The simple answer is she can apply for RP before she leaves - make sure you get yourself authorised by her to deal on her behalf in her absence - mean you need to include that info within your application.
The emails for Poliisi and Migri are all on their websites.
If you are really busy ask your wife to search the right contact.

Why not apply before she leaves?
You don't have to wait till the time is up, you know.

I like how you gave him the classical treatment without even thinking. The dude is a veteran of this forum, he's seen it all, and he's looking for an actual advice from someone who has been in a similar situation given that Migri's website provides no real info on this particular situation.caster wrote:You want to hear what you really want to hear - not open to live in reality.
I believe that the problem is that her RP will expire while she's away and she won't be able to enter Finland again.Flossy1978 wrote:Why not apply before she leaves?
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Its not a matter of old or new - its matter of right and wrong. When you been issued with RP - you get instructions along - and that states all answers for OP.
Migri websites or Finlex (translated decrees) all is available. There is no special email where one gets what one want to hear unless your case worker contact you through email which they are not allowed to.
FYI that was my actual advice and also the info is there.

RIght. Can somebody who has picked a permit lately confirm can one do it with written authorization (I'd expect so) or does one need to do it in person? If it is possible then that should be a pretty simple solution to the problem.roger_roger wrote: There might be some kind of letter she can sign, so, he can go to collect her RP while she is away. Hmm. I wonder if their customer service works better in English than their website:cors187 wrote:and searching for the email address just did my head in

I meant you apply a few months before expiry. It doesn't usually take long when it's renewal.

Re: Res permit extension situation
In summer 2013 the permit arrived with registered mail. Postal services does not know what it's in there so normal rules for picking up mail applied. As such, a separate power of attorney would have sufficed to pick the permit for someone else.Rip wrote:RIght. 1- Send the application ASAP (do it NOW).
2- Call a lawyer, any lawyer, and ask about your wife giving you a special power of attorney (valtakirja). It might even be that a lawyer isn't needed and you can do it at the police station immediately.
3- Your wife leaves to do her business.
4- The card is ready before your wife's arrival. The police give her a call to come pick up the card. (she can write down your phone number on the application if her Finnish number doesn't work abroad).
5- With your special power of attorney paper, you go to the police and pickup the card.
6- Send the card to her with DHL/UPS/Insured registered post.

A general form for autorization: http://hyy.helsinki.fi/sites/default/fi ... apohja.pdfadnan wrote:2- Call a lawyer, any lawyer, and ask about your wife giving you a special power of attorney (valtakirja). Even migri tells how you can get someone else to fetch your RP http://www.migri.fi/working_in_finland/ ... e_decision
So no need for lawyer. If you want to be extra cautious, not a bad habit, you can ask the coppers if the valtakirja is ok, while filing the application. Also good habit would be to limit the authorization to defined task and put end date to it.

Kinda unrelated, but I'd recommend calling instead of sending an email in case what you're after is just information. They're not very good with responding to emails.

All is right, but I believe it is possible to arrange pick up at the home country in the finnish embassy /consulate. Sometimes it is not allowed to pick up some personal documents (passports etc.) with PoA, but as everyone says it is can be confirmed by the police.
What do you want from me?????
Re: Res permit extension situation
Nice nice , some tid bits there.
1. I was under the impression that even if the RP is applied for early , that the actual date of renewal still stands at the date of the the last PR end date.
Seems stupid to apply 4-6 months early and get what?. You have to be here for 1 year/4 years etc etc. They give you a 4 year continuous A permit because youve been here 9 months on the Entry A permit?
2.
3. I would rather find the actual details in printed form and thats why im not keen on visiting or phoning, but i will follow some links here and survey the finnish link farms again.
4.

I get preferential treatment everywhere but the fact remains that if you could have found the finlex listing you would have linked them..by caster,

I cant remember if migri takes the card at the application stage or they take the old card when they give you a new one , but i guess they had your wifes old card and thats whey the new card was mailed? In summer 2013 the permit arrived with registered mail. I am not married. You probably have a choice. If you give in the card, they give you a certificate that an application is pending.cors187 wrote:I cant remember if migri takes the card at the application stage or they take the old card when they give you a new one , but i guess they had your wifes old card and thats whey the new card was mailed? In summer 2013 the permit arrived with registered mail.
