Residence Permit Renewal Worries

Post by rottenrice » Wed Mar 25, 2015 6:25 am

I started my master's program at HY in September and have an appointment for April 9th to renew my residence permit in Helsinki
I am leaving in mid-June to spend the summer at home.

3 questions:

a)I have 38 credits to date, and probably 41 by early April (depending on how quickly the teacher enters our grades for a recent course). I will have around 70 by the end of the school year and am taking a bunch of classes right now that end at the end of April which would put my total up beyond the 45 that everyone says is required. Will I, with 41 credits, at the time time of my appointment require some sort of letter from a teacher of one of the course I am taking attesting that I will have the requisite 45 in the near future or am I !"#¤% out of luck here?

b)my insurance is valid from 8.24.2014 to 8.25.2015; Would I just buy insurance to cover my 2nd year before going in or would my current insurance suffice? I'm not exactly sure if I can buy my insurance ahead of time (It's through SIP)

c)how long does it take to get the new residence permit? One guy told me it took him almost 3 months since he applied during the summer but I've heard it takes 2-3 weeks otherwise; true or false?

Thanks!

I'm basing this information on what Alto has posted on their website regarding RP renewal
