Any Nursing Degree Applicants this year ?
Hi,
I have applied for Nursing degree programmes at JAMK, LAHTI, CENTRIA and LAPLAND UAS.
I needed some help as to how and what to prepare for the entrance exam.
I called the JAMK UAS(my first choice) to ask if I should prepare from a particular book or something but they said just prepare basic math and basic concepts of Nursing.
But I am most worried about the Motivation essay part. I don't know what exactly it means.
If anyone has taken the entrance exam for Nursing at any of these Universities, please share your experience.
Thanks

Last year I applied in laurea and the pre reading material is really about the Code of Ethics. You can find the link in their website. The exam is really easy but the motivation part is difficult. In fact I passed the written exam with ease. I failed however, because they said I lack the motivation to study. Maybe if I will apply next time I will tell them it is now or never :p Seriously though, I guess they want you to sound so desperate just to get into the program for them to assess that you really have a very strong motivation to finish the program.

thanks for your post.
What exactly did they ask you in the motivation part?
Was it a one to one interview ?
And can you please tell me in detail your whole experience.
I'd really appreciate it.
My first choice is JAMK and they haven't got any pre reading material and are very vague, I am currently doing basic concepts of nursing from Koizer and Erb's Fundamentals of Nursing.
Have no clue about the MOTIVATION and INTERVIEW part.
Thanks

hey there,
I have also applied for Nursing Degree Program at JAMK this year. Just like you I am also very clueless about the motivation essay part and the interview.
Have you found out anything about it? How is it going to be like and all... I have been practicing the basic maths but I am really confused about how to prepare for the essay part

hav
Just try and read up nursing journals, that might help.
Have you been invited yet ? what is your first choice ?
I''m really confused about the essay part too, they said one part of it is going to be motivational essay and the other is going to be like a passage . So that's all I know so far.asmitakumal365 wrote:hey there,

JAMK UAS is my first choice. Yes, I have already got the invitation
Thank you for your information and good luck.

Re: Any Nursing Degree Applicants this year ?
I don't understand how some people here are confused with the motivation essay. That should be the easiest part, the one you don't even need to study. It's where you say why you want to be a nurse and why you think you'll be good at it. If you are applying, you should know what to say.

Are you invited to Nepal for your entrance exam ? If you are then I'm coming there too. And if not then can you tell where you will be taking your exam and the date ? Good luck to you too.

You will be paired in two and you will have a paper where the list of questions are listed. Questions are very situational, for example: What kind of a team member are you. Stuff like that. You will just ask and take turns really. The two teachers will just observe your exchange. I have answered everything with confidence. There is a question like if you will not be accepted what will you do? I replied that I will apply again because I really enjoy this field of work and I'm sure what I wanted. Sadly, I didn't pass. So, I'm clueless on how to satisfy this motivation question.

Re: Any Nursing Degree Applicants this year ?
Hello, i hope it's not too late, imho the motivation part should not be difficult. Few things I could suggest:
1. Write in proper english & make sure the handwriting is readable
It doesnt have to be perfect, but avoid contraction & smileys like i do here
2. Be precise & systematic, use short intro, bullet points, explain a bit, and short conclusion. There are videos on youtube explaining about toefl writing exam, they help (at least me)
3. It might help if you think & write those bullet points (reasons why you choose this programme) for practising. However, i wouldn't try to memorize by heart
4. The reasons should be realistic enough that you will be able to axhieve it.. not like saving the world thing
5. Rest well, eat breakfast, bring jacket/scarf, extra pencil, no calculator.
For the oral exam, some of us last year were divided into groups, got a topic and we discussed it within others, the teachers only observed. Others, like previous comment above, had a real interview. Learn not only to talk, but also to listen, it supposed to show how we work as a team.
Where are you going to take the exam? Good luck!

In your invitation letter, it has the exam content details. Math is simple conversions, division, multiplication and division and decimals..then there is the motivation essay and the group interview.
Are you going to Nepal for the interview ?

No it's not too late.
I'm still working on my motivation essay.
Thanks for sharing.
Your points really helped.
Good to know that you passed.
I'm going to Nepal for the exam and it's on the 17th of April.
Could I send you my motivation essay on your email and you can give me your feedback.(Please give me your email in the message board)
If that's not too much for you.
I'd really appreciate the help.
