Haaga Helia DP in International Business - Essay Part

Hello everyone,

First of all I wanted to ask if anybody else has applied to IB or BIT (or both, as is my case) in Haaga Helia and got an invitation to the entrance exams. If so we could make a Whatsapp group of future IB / BIT students (for me the curriculums of both programs seem interesting, and I am sure there are many people in the same situation).

Now, back on topic, I wanted to ask if someone who did the entrance exam to the IB program in the previous years could shed some light on the essay section of it. What topics could we be asked to write about? How many words? Will they be too technical?

I have searched this forum and just found one message regarding this aspect - it was of someone who did this exam a year or so ago, and it said that the topic for the essay was "The importance of international logistics". Also found on a social network that usually the essay is 250-300 words, but I'm not too sure that this info is accurate enough.

Having a scientific background, this lack of knowledge on what will the essay be about kind of scares me, as if an economical topic comes up, I am not sure that I will know what to talk about!

So, could somebody please help me with this thing? Maybe someone of you did the exam the past year? This would be hugely appreciated!

By the way, just in case somebody is lost looking for info on the exam like me, here's some information I have found on the Russian social network site VK:

The structure of this exam has remained without change for a long period of time.

Part 1. Multiple-choice questions based on material given in the test
Part 2. Essay writing based on material given in the test
Part 3. Logical thinking
Part 4. Group interview

Part 1:
April 2011
Article 8-10 pages, 7-10 questions regarding the article with options to choose.
October 2011
Article 8-10 pages about Finland and European Union. 6-8 questions with options to choose.
April 2012
Article about Flat tax, 6 pages, 5-7 questions with options to choose. Interesting aspect: the text was separated into smaller articles about different taxes, and the answers could be found very easily in the text.

Part 2:
Essay of 200-250 words, usually consisting of summarizing information.

Part 3:
Math and logical questions with options to choose like:

1) what is the missing number (?) in this sequence: 17, 19, 22, 16, (?), 13, 32
A) 27; B) 15; C) 9; D) Other

2) A, B and C share a fee that they have received. A gets 1/5, B gets 2/3 while C's share is 150$
Calculate the share of A
A) 225$ B) 900$ c)1,250$ D) Other

Part 4:

Group interview. Also each one is asked questions like:

Why do you want to study in this programme?
Do you have any experience in business?
Do you like a group work?
What will you do after graduating from this programme?
Why are you a suitable person for applying?
What are your strong features of character?
Can you describe advantages and disadvantages of European Union?
Can you tell about your hobby?
Why did you choose Finland?
