Moving Back To Finland

Post by mago » Mon Apr 20, 2015 9:11 am

I'm moving back to Finland next month. Wife and kids are Finnish, I'm Australian (but with UK citizenship).

I lived in Finland previously for 12 months, so went through the process of registering with police, Maistraatti, Kela card etc...
So I already have personal identity code and previously worked in Finland.

I have a full-time job contract and start the week I arrive. Looking on the internet seems like I just need to go through the steps below?
  • 1. Register address with Maistraatti
    2. Contact Vero and estimate earnings
    3. Register right of residence with Police
You guys know if step 3 is needed again, wasn't clear to me if this was a one-off thing or needed again. Anything else important I have missed?

-Thanks-

You need to do the "moving back" declaration by writing, so if you have a chance to go in person to the maistraatti and say "I'm ba-a-ack" they could say also if they want to see the EU-todistus again or do they just flick the switch (which is what I'd strongly assume). So then after you get your address in the system it takes a couple of days for the VERO computers to update... So no big drama. Actually, if you never made an official "in writing" declaration of move as "permanent" , out of Finland you will find you never left... If you did, then you also need to reapply for the KELA card etc. and might need to provide a new police certificate, as you need to get "domiciled" again... if you didn't... oopsidaisy.

And please, forget you are Australian, you are EU from UK. Repeat 100 times. Thou shalt not confuse the drones.

If you have online banking still active, at least steps 1 and 2 can be done online.
