Kela Unemployment Benefits and Part-time job

Post by neronakos » Mon Apr 20, 2015 10:25 pm

Hei there,
so I am currently taking unemployment benefit from Kela but there is a chance that I might get a project based job. Since it is project based it means that for a month I might have job to do for another not, or for a month I might have some few hours. How does the system with Kela works? Do I still apply for unemployment benefits and say that I worked this month? I remember that you can work some hours per week and still be considered as unemployed.

Thanks a lot!
No I prefer to be legal, just asking what are the procedures, since it is not a standard job.

You need to read the small print and remember the "karenssi" periods. You might end up with no money for weeks when the employer and Kela get off-synch. Hence people being reluctant to take jobs as you end up sometimes with less money ( or rent arrears or bills in collection) than if you just sat on your ass...

stay unemployed, and ask for i think it's called soviteltu päiväraha (basically you send them a list of what you worked each month and they will figure out if you still get unemployment benefits on top of that, and how much).
just tell them everything you earn (even if it's below 300€).
it's sometimes impossible to understand the workings, but in the end you're always getting sth extra out of it i guess.

yeah true that. I was afraid of that as well. But on the other hand, I prefer to put that I was working on my cv than be out of work for a long time...And a side work sometimes might lead to a normal job.
