photographic chemical disposal in Espoo/Helsinki?

Post by flix » Tue Apr 14, 2015 10:01 am

Hi guys, I'll living in Helsinki for couple of years now, I'm wondering does anyone know where can I take my small batches of spent photographic chemical (C-41 for colour negatives processing) to? Usually a 1 litre in 3-4 months? I really don't want to pour those stuff down the drain.

I also know that there is this "kierratyskeskus", and various second hand/recycling store, but they all seems to be accepting furniture/house hold items instead of liquid chemical of this kind.

many thanks for any hint :D

Oh they do? Do I need to prepare any paper describing the content? Or can I just show up with some softdrink bottle with nasty looking liquid and they will accept it? Also, if there any "keywords" I should use with the person at the "kierrätyskeskus", with my bad to non-existing finnish vocabulary I don't want him mistaken me offering him to drink that stuff.

thanks again!

You could try sending a PM to masao (FF's super-helpful recycle expert  )

http://www.kierratyskeskus.fi/kaupat_ja ... t_palvelut
it says there, towards the bottom of the page, that you can bring "dangerous waste" to kyläsaari, nihtisilta and koivukylä recycling centers.
and read more at: http://www.hsy.fi/JATEHUOLTO/PALVELUT/V ... fault.aspx

There are HSY "Touring collection vehicles" - they come close to where you live perhaps and will accept it. You need to check for the schedule here:

Is there still a recycle centre in Kilo? I thought it shut down ages ago. it's in Suomenoja (Matinkyla) now.

I don't think they take any toxic waste. Last year they refused some half-empty tins of paint that we took over when they visited our area.

Hi.
Gee, someone mentioned my name here!
As a Kyläsaari Kierrätyskeskus worker, we accept hazardous liquids, oils, car batteries, paints, etc. free of charge.
All you need is to fill a lomake (sheet) there to indicate roughly what you are giving us.
I am quite positive that Nihtisilta also accept those.

Not sure about "half-empty tins of paint" but they certainly took my 5l containers with exhausted developer and fixer.

My son is still using that washing machine we bought in Kyläsaari
I need to pay another visit: I'm looking for a small fridge and a small, very quiet freezer...

Hi.
Whenever you mention my name, I start to sing the old Beatles' song,
"Penny Lane is in my eyes and in my ears"...
I am happy to serve you, but I will be in Japan for four weeks from this Saturday, to get rid of Finnish suomettuminen.
PM me if you still need my service when I am back in mid May.
