I have a phone that I need to return for repair with an internal battery
Can anyone clarify what the rules are regarding items with sending items with Lithium ion batteries by post, I sent an phone which has an internal battery by post for repair and it was reused and returned once it reached the airport.
In a statement here on posti.fi it states
"If the battery is included in the device, the battery is usually well protected, and the packing
regulations are not equally strict""
but then it also says
"Until further notice, batteries, or equipment containing batteries, or equipment packed with batteries, cannot be transported as airmail."
How else can something be sent abroad if not by airmail and paying DHL or Courier €100 for a phone repair is clearly not economical and I think they will even have the same rules.
Whats even more annoying is I took it to the post office, filled out the form there with "mobile phone/puhelin" clearly stated on the package, they took my money to send it and then when it came back looked at me like an alien for thinking I should be entitled to some sort of refund when the phone didn't even leave the country.

I once tried to send Galaxy phone by Posti but they refused to accept the packet because of the batteries in the phone. They said the courier services would accept with the batteries.

So I guess this could end up being a lesson in "don't buy something with batteries abroad to save a few euros"sky2 wrote:I once tried to send Galaxy phone by Posti but they refused to accept the packet because of the batteries in the phone. I can't help but feel this is another form of protectionism since may other EU states like the UK stipulate internal batteries that can't be removed are ok" The ironic thing is when I bought the phone online it was delivered by posti themselves and I remember the tracking code showing it go through airmail.
I guess maybe I have a really expensive paperweight now, the worst thing is the phone works fine but just needs a new charger port and there is no "Chinese shops" here that carry out those sorts of repairs

Way ahead of you, Unfortunately they just replied to me a few moments ago and say no.tummansininen wrote:Have you asked Posti whether surface mail is possible?

I mean I get that there is a small risk and it should be avoided where possible by removing batteries but in this case who can I reasonably do this when the battery cannot be removed, the phone was sent to me via airmail so weird how others can do it and I can't. Ironically it seems I can book a flight for me and my phone and put it in my checked baggage no problem

Every other nation I can find has rules defined like this
"Lithium ion/polymer/metal/alloy batteries when sent contained in equipment such as a mobile phone or digital camera are allowed. "
http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help- ... s-overseas
"All of the following conditions must be met.
(1) Batteries must be installed in or built-in to the equipment. "
https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/use/r ... n02_en.pdf
and then comes Finland, the new masters of sanctioning themselves because thats what the paper says when everyone else makes reasonable common sense exceptions.
I guess I have to now go on a booze cruise to Tallinn and post it from there, at least then I can drown my frustrations too while making peaceful protest.
"Don't let me post my phone, Fine. I'll go to Tallin, do it from there and evade paying some beer taxes I would otherwise have spent here"
I was hoping there was some sort of over land method to do this I was unaware of but seems not and now I'm just venting.

There are plenty of places that repair iPhones in Helsinki/Espoo. Where do you live?
http://www.irepair.fi/ (approx 50€)
Or... order the spare parts from wherever online and then repair it yourself

The phone is a xiaomi mi4 which is not available here hence why I have to return it abroad.
It's within it's guarantee which is why I'd prefer to not open and fix it myself but maybe it might be best to just buy a replacement charger port and do it myself at this stage.
I'm in Tampere and not seen any such shops here that I know of but will hunt videos and parts and see if it's possible, Maybe I can even convince the shop I bought it from to mail me the part as they have been on the receiving end of my frustration as well.
