49.50.
Re: Helsinki Public Transport
Nope. Karhusaari is in Espoo. You need a regional ticket.FinnGuyHelsinki wrote:Karhusaari and Ruoholahti are both in Helsinki. https://www.hsl.fi/en/information/how-u ... -transport

Given the reference to Ruoholahti, it's likely the OP referenced the one in Espoo.
Re: Helsinki Public Transport
There is a plan to change the current tariff system to one where short trips over a zone boundary would no longer be more expensive than long trips with one zone. Last I heard about it, it was supposed to come effective in 2017: https://www.hsl.fi/uutiset/2013/hsln-ha ... eista-4231
Re: Helsinki Public Transport
the current system is very badly thought out. 500m on a bus crossing the helsinki-espoo border costs more than 20km from one end of helsinki to the other. They probably assume that most people will have season tickets (which are offered at a lower price for residents than non-residents). So who cares about outrageous short trip individual prices!
The new zones are not much better. You would have the same problems. The best kind really is tap in/tap out (eg singapore) since then you pay exactly for the distance you travel and fares can be easily varied by time of day.
I wonder if they will still have travel cards with the new zone system. In london you can already use contactless credit cards to travel with (no need for a separate travelcard). And no need to decide in the morning if you should buy a one-day ticket or individual tickets. The system automatically converts you to a one day pass as soon as you buy tickets which reach the one day ticket price.

Not the same problem. A monthly ticket for any "short" trip would be (with the prices listed) maximum 60 euros. There would be no steep rise with crossing just one zone boundary.riku2 wrote: The new zones are not much better. You would have the same problems.
For better or worse the current system has been made so, and it that has been a deliberate decision, that a daily commuting or other regular use is considerably cheaper per trip than occasional use.
Re: Helsinki Public Transport
Yes, I think it is still scheduled for 2016 with the new cards coming out already this year.

The Karhusaari car park along the Länsiväylä is just on the perimeter of Helsinki but the bus stop is firmly inside Espoo. I have seen a driver stop on the motorway and tell passengers to get off because he noticed they pressed (1) when they boarded the bus.

Re: Helsinki Public Transport
Since I moved to Helsinki, I just get the regional every month. It's about a 100 euros (dirt cheap), and I don't have to think about or calculate "border crossings".
Personally, I'm extremely happy with the system and the prices.

Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.
Re: Helsinki Public Transport
I know the stop you're talking about, it's next to the river and the highway. Don't think you'll have a problem leaving the bus there, as the buses are often Helsinki buses (70 still?). Not sure if you are boarding that bus there (either towards the center or Suutarila).tummansininen wrote:There's a stop at the Vantaa / Helsinki border at Tammisto where buses pass from Helsinki, then to that one bus stop in Vantaa, then back into Helsinki at the next stop. Considering its location and the buses serving it, designating it "Vantaa" is ridiculous... never saw anyone get on or off at that one stop, I guess all the locals knew that it would cost them double!
