Prescription from Private doctor if not registered citizen?

Post by SharonS » Sat May 16, 2015 10:36 am

Hi, I'm an Irish EU citizen but I spend most of my time in Finland now with my Finnish partner, but leaving the country every 3 months briefly, until I get married to my partner next year - have not registered here yet.
I would like to get a prescription for a medication I used to use back in Ireland - but need a new prescription since I ended the medication, but feel it would be beneficial to begin using it again.

Obviously I expect no help from KELA and would pay the whole cost of doctor and medication myself, but my question is just that - would a private doctor allow an unregistered citizen to get a prescription like that?
Anyone has any idea please let me know, thanks

Of course every tourist can go to a doctor and get a prescription.

It depends of course whether it is a normal medication or something strictly regulated not even all doctors might be allowed to prescribe.

You should of course ask the customer service of the healthcare provider you want to visit.

If you're still resident there, and covered by Irish services, you should have the "blue card" that gives you free medical access in any country for the doctor. Perscriptions in Finland cost so not much luck with those.
