Sexist Minister now?
Re: Sexiest Minister now?
Meh. I care about his policies more than his online sexual life.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.
Re: Sexiest Minister now?
Didn't you see that he already got sidelined?
Even if you only follow Yle in English there's a new piece already for some hours.
I'm more concerned about his pour excuses "Facebook is a poor friend" than the behavior. Bad, bad Facebook :

None that impact the rights of minorities and women?roger_roger wrote:but that policies do you expect from a man who doesn't have respect for women and already have been minister previously?adnan wrote:Meh. I care about his policies more than his online sexual life.
lol, you're funny. It's not like he killed babies. Or sent dirt texts to an "exotic dancer" while holding office. Or, gasp, even played with cigars in his secretary, while at his office.

Anyway, he just wants to save face. He won't get away with it, not in the short term, and not in the way that a member of a established party could.
Re: Sexiest Minister now?
As far as I know, he served quite well in his ministerial position. He represented Finland quite well internationally, and he had multiple initiatives that started the development processes in many areas (agriculture, for example). Even though he opposed EU membership, he did nothing to endanger Finland's candidacy (wasn't an EU member yet when he took office) and he even made a lot of efforts in the negotiations to help Finland be on par with EEA standards.roger_roger wrote:but that policies do you expect from a man who doesn't have respect for women and already have been minister previously?
To me, he seems like a man who's capable of putting Finland first. I'm able to separate my feelings about what he did on Facebook from my thoughts about him as a politician.

Re: Sexiest Minister now?
Maybe he has started to act that way after years of pent up sexual energies that he got from his previous party Christian Democrats.adnan wrote:As far as I know, he served quite well in his ministerial position. Re: Sexiest Minister now?
When he was a minister he was with Räsänen's lot. Now the scandal isn't quite as biblical

"By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes."
Something wicked this way comes."
Re: Sexiest Minister now?
Absolutely right, Adnan. As Mitterand (former president of France) answered when asked about an extramarital affair/ child: "et alors?" (so what?).adnan wrote:Meh. I care about his policies more than his online sexual life.
What a politician does in his private life should not be taken into account when judging his or her policy making.
This case however says a lot on the PS's double standards, i.e. when a PS member like Hullu-Hallo gets convicted for inciting ethnic hatred: no problemo. When Toimi Kankaanniemi sends explicit messages to unknown women: big problemo.
Makes you think...
Re: Sexiest Minister now?
What a moralistic load of bull****. Do you really think he's the only male chauvinistic pig in politics?roger_roger wrote:but that policies do you expect from a man who doesn't have respect for women and already have been minister previously?adnan wrote:Meh. Sideline from the coalition talks only, but he says he still hopes to lead some ministry.ajdias wrote:Didn't you see that he already got sidelined?

Re: Sexiest Minister now?
It's Halla-aho and he was sidelined for while from domestic politics because of that very dubious conviction (while we have had people that were guilty of killing people, abusing political power, undue meddling in affairs of courts, and helping foreign secret police in similar post).raskarhu wrote: when a PS member like Hullu-Hallo gets convicted for inciting ethnic hatred: no problemo.
He's been largely drawing his own conclusions, his problems made more serious by the contrast between his Facebook activities and his earlier public persona. When Toimi Kankaanniemi sends explicit messages to unknown women: big problemo.
(I doubt you could make much of scandal of identical messages around T. Hakkarainen)
Re: Sexiest Minister now?
Same dude who was trying to ban phone sex lines... this gets kinda close to his policy making.raskarhu wrote:What a politician does in his private life should not be taken into account when judging his or her policy making.

"Nussittuna nukkuisit sikeästi"
I'm saving that one for the next time I get drunk

How active was he in trying to get that into law? Was it his initiative or did he only support it?Upphew wrote:Same dude who was trying to ban phone sex lines... this gets kinda close to his policy making.raskarhu wrote:What a politician does in his private life should not be taken into account when judging his or her policy making.

Afaik those were private messages, so as open as phone conversations.roger_roger wrote:load of horse****, first we are not discussing his private life here or how he insults/abuses his wife/girlfrind in his bedroom. we are discussing about the script he wrote openly in social media.raskarhu wrote:What a politician does in his private life should not be taken into account when judging his or her policy making.
