Moving away from Finland

Post by flower1988 » Wed May 20, 2015 10:52 am

Hello there :-)

I plan to soon move away from Finland and go back to Switzerland but I am facing some problems and hope you could help me.

Here are some information about my situation:
I have decided to leave my job by end of May in Finland
Had been working in Finnland for 15 months
Move back to Switzerland in June and will be unemployed there

So my questions is:
Do I get KELA support even tough I am not registered anymore in Finland? According to Switzerland Law the last EU country is responsible for me when I am unemployed.
As it was my decision to quit my job - do I get immediately Kela support?
Should I even make my moving official or is it better when I am still registered in Finland with unemployment payments?
How does it look like with labour unions? Do they pay also after a certain time when I am not registered anymore

Really hope that someone could help me cause Kela office didnt know it either...

Many thanks in advance.

If you quit, you don't get support (at least straight away) from KELA. I think you have to wait three months or something.
It would be illegal to leave Finland and not tell Finland you were leaving. That's cheating the system. You would be found out anyway. Big Brother is watching.

Why would you get unemployment benefits if you leave Finland? You've left the country. Why should KELA be supporting you?

I wasn't allowed to get my union unemployment money when I left Finland. I took a redundancy package before they laid me off. If I had stayed in Finland, I would have collected the union money. I don't know about Switzerland, but maybe you can't either???

Within EU (Switzerland isn't part of it, though they participate in some of the subsystems - I am not too sure this is one of them) one can get the unemployment benefits paid to another member state for three months, if you're registered as job seeker there.

It requires more than just a Swiss law to make Finland responsible for benefits paid to somebody living in Switzerland. Getting benefits from here and not informing about your emigration is a fraud.

Within Finland you don't get benefits for 90 days (I don't know how many days there are in a week in that calculation...) if you are not fired but quit without an acceptable reason.
