It is the management who starts it and the management who finishes it.

in the ones i've been through there are regular updates on the status emailed to the employees (the whole thing takes many weeks). they start to narrow down which departments are safe and which are still under consideration. then towards the end they publish the numbers. but even when they've announced the numbers you you are still unsure if your own job is at risk. they might say department X will be reduced by 12 persons but if there are 100 in the department you are still not sure if it's you. only at the very end is the news communicated to who is going.horse_meat wrote:...is it possible to ask the management about the details of the negotiation? In a way you are lucky. my last employer had only a few employees in finland. no need for YT talks. My manager called me friday morning and told me the department would shut. HR turned up from overseas the monday morning and said that Monday was our last day with company X. We handed in our laptops and email accounts were closed by the Wednesday. We were paid our notice period of course but other companies (eg Nokia) have done things much better. more advance notice and then you are paid some severance pay according to length of service.

If you are running against or over 50 you do not need to worry that much that you have to stay
