Hello! My name is Cate. I am a 27 yr old American single mother that came to Finland last autumn, due to custody issues with an ex. Since arriving, I have been able to find little to no opportunity for work or education for English speakers (unless you already have a Bachelor's degree, that is). I applied to an English program at TAMK but was unfortunately wait listed, and though I know other cities offer more I am restricted to Tampere alone (due to my son living here). As for employment, I apply for everything I can, with little regard to my ineligibility, and despite having applied for over 60 jobs since my arrival I have yet to receive any interviews or responses. I have exhausted monster.fi and mol.fi.
I have a trade degree in Medical Administration, Billing and Insurance Coding as well as Microsoft Office certification, 75wpm typing, an internship in human resources, and work experience in food service, sales, youth tutoring, English tutoring, customer service, management, scheduling, training and patient care. My Finnish is beginner skill level, but I also know some Spanish.
I want to be able to prove my drive for work, and excel in a career for not only myself (as stagnation has become quite overbearing) but for the foundation of a life here for me and my Finnish son. I am a permanent resident already and ask humbly for an opportunity to prove myself to anyone seeking personnel.
Reference letters and school documentation available upon request.

Re: LF Employment Tampere
Cate, I'm gonna be honest with you. From my experience in this country, 9/10 times, foreigners are unemployed because they're severely unskilled or they lack desirable skills that would warrant employing them.
Looking at what you've posted, I see that you're approaching you 30s without any clear career path. You've listed that you worked in nearly every field where you'd usually find a female English speaker. This tells me that you don't have a clear path that you want to develop to reach certain goals.
You see, the more skills you have (actual desirable skills), and the more fine-tuned they are, the less you need to worry about the specifics of career paths. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true; with few desirable skills, you need to have some kind of speciality. You're not 18 anymore and you cannot really afford the career vagueness.
While I think it's gonna be extremely unlikely that you'll get a job this forum, I do wish you the best of luck. I've been unemployed at some point and I know that it sucks.
P.S. Do you happen to have a CV that you can show? An inadequate CV is the number one reason recruiters don't write back.

Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.
