Usually, I'm all for initiatives like this. However, in the forum format, this is a failure. These lists, of any kind in any category, have always been a failure. What if it grows to 10-15 pages? Less important threads have grown for more. As soon as it gets to more than 5 pages, it becomes more difficult to navigate. People will post comments about companies, and the links will get lost.. even those comments will be buried by the new comments.
So we need a maintainer who will modify the top post to keep everything neat and readable... yeah, right. Would you do that?

Anyway, in the spirit of supporting the idea, I'll add some companies from my field (security).

There needs to be a moderator who starts a sticky and locks it. The thread can only be added to by sending info to the moderator listed in the thread.

Theres a few stickies that would have been nice to have as quick references.
