Please Share Your Experience Finding Home Cleaning Service
Hello Dear All,
I would like to outsource regular cleaning of our house in eastern Espoo. We are talking about some standard cleaning tasks bi-weekly. If the cooperation will go well then the services might be expanded to include some other domestic stuff.I know there is a whole bunch of cleaning companies and also one can find cash-only individuals to do the job. But how do you really go about it? How do you know which company is good? How do you find a person who is trustworthy and efficient? How do you establish a process with them? Do you provide detailed instructions regarding what exactly and how do you want to get cleaned each time, or those with experience basically don't need that, unless you have some specific requests? Is there some sort of a rough estimate, i.e. "a home of X sqm usually requires Y hours of routine cleaning"?
Please share your experience. If you have someone to recommend - that would be good, too.

Yes, it's rather illegal to be paying cash. Black work, work under the table is a bad thing in Finland. You want to go through the right channels, so both you and the cleaner are taken care of.

Just for the record: I've been living in the country for almost 10 years by now, so I kind of know how stuff works.
My question was not about making civilian choices considering Finnish labor market system. It was literally about finding a reliable person to do the job, it just happens to be in Finland.

Why did you ask about paying in cash then?!?!?
And if you've been in Finland for ten years, shouldn't you know enough to have the answers to your questions?

Because it's also an option.
No, I shouldn't. My question has nothing to do with Finland or a particular country, whatever it might be. It's related to finding domestic help. And no, I don't have 10 years experience of having other people clean my house, again - no matter the country.

1. That's your assumption.tummansininen wrote:Ten years in Finland but aiming to pay cash when it means they can't claim it back as a tax deduction?
Wow...
2. The amount of years is irrelevant. Don't play a naïve person who is not aware of this practice existing among all kinds of people living here.
3. Well, if you nevertheless insist on a "wow" - so, go ahead, have a blast. You'll have your "wow", i'll shrug my shoulders, and we both continue our separate merry ways.

I said it's an option. You jumped to calling it my aim. THAT's the assumption. So the rest of the rhetoric is irrelevant. But you seem to enjoy it, so who am I to rain on your parade.

(Rather OT, but) naturally the cash only payment is or should be a lot lower than the one where the recipient is paying all the taxes and can't collect from KELA at the same time...
(first one of the two main reasons why this tax deduction exists in the first place)

Another route to find what one prefers would be by trying those home cleaning deals from Groupon. Has anyone found there something that they decided to stick with and could recommend?

I'm thinking the bigger risk lies with what the employee might do while working; injure themselves, break or steal stuff,... Just pointing out illegal practices in hiring or working of the other party one would be incriminating themselves as well.tummansininen wrote:You also risk getting bitten by your employee later on, who might stir up trouble for you with the authorities if they get fired.
