Residence Permit Type

Post by rebvar » Fri Jul 17, 2015 3:40 pm

Hello,

I have been accepted in one of the universities of Finland and I am full funded. I has now been 40 days since I have applied for the Residence Permit (Researcher Permit).

1. As I am paying taxes during my studies (4 Year PhD), which type of Residence Permit would I receive, type A or type B?
2. How long does it take till I receive my Permit normally? I heard that Researcher Permit usually took much more time than Student's Permit.

Thanks.

Which of the application forms did you fill?

Four month is quite a very long time. :( :( . I hope I receive it sooner than that.

And what about my other question? Which one would I receive: type A or type B?

Thank you very much.

tummansininen wrote:If I'm reading it correctly then "average" last year was 23 days, compared with 21 for a student, so I don't know who told you it "normally" takes a lot longer. Having said that, it is a TERRIBLE time of year for applications and they do have a guide time under law to get working permits done within four months - student applications are processed "asap" with an aim to get them done before their studies start (about 4-6 weeks from now) meaning I don't think yours will be prioritised much faster than the guide time.

Expect / plan for four months, then drink a toast if it's processed sooner :beer_yum:

I am leaning towards A. Your university should be able to confirm.

Looks like A-type RP to me too. You're staying "continuously" and you're not exactly a student.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

As I mentioned in one of my other posts, the answer to both my questions are as follows:

1. I received a type B work permit.
2. It took 56 days, until I received my permit since the day I applied for the permit at the Embassy.

Maybe this would be useful for someone else.
