I've plundering and raiding the internet sea for quite some time now here, and I've yet to see any consequences of it. Only thing that bugs me is that the piratebay.se is blocked. I'd say your safe to go. Technically PopcornTime is theft too, would be funny if they would want to prosecute everyone using it, the country will go bankrupt

- Don't download anything made in Finland or owned by a Finnish entity.
- Don't upload anything. Anything!
- Don't download 24/7

Other than that, you'll be alright.

Helmet libraries throughout Helsinki region have a lot of movies and series if you want to go legal, or if you want to watch Finnish stuff. They usually don't have anything released in the last couple of years though.

I vaguely remember hearing about those. Usually, if you follow the 3 points, the likelihood of any consequences is extremely low.
A number bikers die in accidents on the road, but you can minimize the chances if you follow some steps. The likelihood is still not zero, but we all accept that risk. I treat torrenting the same way *.

I explicitly recommend that everybody sticks to download legal material from the internet, no matter what medium is used.

-I downloaded "Talvisota", but that stuff is so old..
-I think being a peer automatically causes you to seed at the same time. I never uploaded something myself though.
-I download 40GB movie files on a 1MB/s connection, gotta keep it running you know..

conclusion, I better get out before the Finnish special forces raid my house.

That's probably because people are buying the stuff online. I have bought hundreds of BD's from amazon.co.uk.

Diskshop.fi cdon.fi and Anttila's and Gigantti's discount bins. I literally stopped using amazon.co.uk when supersaver stopped.

LOL.. OMG.. You answered every point. LOL OMFG
This means that LOL my points are !"#¤% LOL because LOL. Right? Lol OMG LOL BBQ HAHA OMG

*sigh* Mate, look. It's all statistics and probabilities. If you follow those steps, then you'll decrease the probability of something going wrong. Not following the steps doesn't mean the probability of getting caught is 100%
It's a fцcking simple concept of risk-benefit analysis.

Oh yeah, and to OP, use John Tyree's script to get a good blocklist so you can avoid known bad peers https://gist.github.com/johntyree/3331662

it was meant funnily, as a joking response, not seriously. I know what "a fцcking simple concept of risk-benefit analysis" is.

I guess casual responses are not appreciated, I will keep them to myself in the future then. :?

You might want to consider a VPN with that internet behaviour, makes you get to the pirate bay again too, for that last matter, you just need to download and install their pirate browser. or try to replace .se with .mn (that is where it routes to now anyway) Also changing your DNS settings might help (use 8.8.8.8 = Goolgle DNS).

I know from Elisa that they actually block several IP addresses from TPB so tweaking your DNS settings will not help, but as I understood most other providers still allow traffic to TPB.

For entertainment and education in your own language (for the kids i.e.) you will be stuck to torrents anyway because little chance you find that in the discount box at gigantti or on the mentioned websites cdon or Diskshop. Ordering them from your own country might cost more than twice the normal retail price.

For the legal part I would say, don't download or upload anything illegal (I use torrent solely for Open source and CC material, but hey I never speed with my motorbike or car either).

But one principal thing:
Downloading (popcorntime) does not equal theft, it is copyright infringement. Theft is taking something away so the owner does not have it any-more. Downloading is making a copy of something, copyright infringement happens when you are downloading/uploading something without the proper license to do so.

For the viewing of free US content, a VPN can work too (also for Netflix-US).

If you care about privacy on the internet in general, a VPN is the solution for most of your worries too.

Just telling..
If god would give us the source code, we could change the world

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.
