Searching for Work
Searching for Work
Hello, Finland Forum!
I am currently in search of employment, whether full-time, part-time, or summer/holiday sessions.
My current location is Kaakkuri. I am willing to commute by car or bus to surrounding areas such as Oulu, Liminka, Kempele, Tyrnävä, and Haukiputas.
I am open to work in any field that I have the skills to put towards improving the workplace. I have a high school diploma (USA) where I majored in art, and graduated from Limingan Taidekoulu under the sarjakuvalinja. I am experienced in illustration, advertisements, web design, graphic art, and animation. I am also experienced and interested to take on various other jobs such as cleaning services, stock / inventory, customer service, or library work.
All of my previous education and work experience can be found on my LinkedIn Profile: fi.linkedin.com/in/EricaViitala
Here are some examples for my CV and Cover Letter (saved as images for convenience)

http://orig05.deviantart.net/87ff/f/201 ... 98ubf8.png
My mother language is English (North America), while I also know basic level Finnish. I can comprehend Finnish better than speaking it, and I am soon to be continuing Finnish 2nd Language lessons from September 2015 through March of 2016. I may also soon enroll to study at OAMK to work towards a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology. If anyone has or knows of any job opportunities, I'd really appreciate it!
*Edit: I am currently a customer to TE-Services where I have been given work practice opportunities. Unfortunately though I am not eligible to continue work practice for another few months due to having done it for so long. In the meantime, I am looking to further my education and/or find legitimate and hopefully near-permanent work.

Re: Searching for Work
Are you already a customer of http://www.te-services.fi/te/en/index.html ? If not, I suggest you register for their services.
Re: Searching for Work
Oh, yes I am! I can edit that into my main post to be more clear.FinnGuyHelsinki wrote:Are you already a customer of http://www.te-services.fi/te/en/index.html ? If not, I suggest you register for their services.
I've been enlisting in work practice with their assistance since mid 2012.
So far I've had work practice at maximum timeframes with 3 different establishments. Unfortunately for the time being, I'm not eligible to resume work practice for a number of months. During this time I'm looking into furthering my education and/or legitimate employment.
Re: Searching for Work
Oh boy! Let's start. This will probably not be nice, but look past the honesty and find what is helpful.
- Portfolio in a RAR file? Really? Is this the most suspicious/annoying way you can think of?
Setup some page somewhere where you can link people. I don't know what the cool kids use these days, but at least an Imgur album would be better than a fûcking RAR file.
- Who are you? Your title says "Graphics Designer", yet none of the positions in your experience show that. I only see library and cashier work. There are no actual work examples of professional work you've done in your time as a freelancer.
- What are your skills? Yeah yeah the PDF says "Art, Animation, etc.", but what are you good at? You should be able to describe what you can do in meaningful sentences.
- CV? Do you have one? You say you're a graphics designer, but the "CV" you provided looks very ugly. I know it's a LinkedIn PDF export, but that's not a excuse.
- Graphics designers usually have some kind of a landing page that looks nice, where they have examples and references.
Try to work on these points, and hopefully you'll be able to move forward with this chosen career.

Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Don't worry about honesty, I appreciate any advice that will help me present myself better.adnan wrote:Oh boy! Let's start. I'm actually rather new to LinkedIn, so I've been getting accustomed to the layout and features. I will definitely be working on improving it as quickly as possible. The PDF is not my official CV, I was hasty and used that as means to share my LinkedIn profile, so I will edit to its proper individual link: https://www.linkedin.com/profile/previe ... cale=en_US (though I believe it requires a log-in to be viewed).
I have multiple CV and Cover Letters prepared outside of LinkedIn that are much better formatted as Rich Text Documents
Here are basic examples for say, a cleaning service job (saved as images for convenience)
http://orig00.deviantart.net/a5bd/f/201 ... 98ujvq.png
http://orig07.deviantart.net/b1a3/f/201 ... 98ujwr.png
http://orig05.deviantart.net/87ff/f/201 ... 98ubf8.png
The multiple CV / Cover Letters I have each pertains to a different work field that I have had experience or education in, since I plan to send them out to various establishments. The .rar Portfolio was only really created to be used as a simple e-mail attachment if needed, and I will definitely be setting up an online portfolio soon. My experience in graphic design mainly pertains to personal / individual commissions. I am planning to contact past customers for honest reviews and referrals, though if this sort of experience is considered unprofessional in any way, I will opt to remove it from my information.
As mentioned, I am honestly open to any sort of employment that my experience can attribute to in a positive way. Art is a passion and dream of mine, but it's understandably a difficult career path to be doing full-time. Basically, work is my priority no matter what it may be. I will continue to pursue an art career and improve my portfolio / information there, but I'm willing to work elsewhere as means of contributing to society first!

Re: Searching for Work
I'd highly recommend that you remove personal information (address and phone number) from those pictures you're posting. You really don't want some of the sickos on the internet easily getting that information.
I'll edit this with more comments and info later.

Edited, thank you for your concern.adnan wrote:I'd highly recommend that you remove personal information (address and phone number) from those pictures you're posting. You really don't want some of the sickos on the internet easily getting that information.
Re: Searching for Work
Logged in or not, that link takes only *you* to your own Linkedin profile, it is useless to anybody else.E-Viitala wrote:I'm actually rather new to LinkedIn, so I've been getting accustomed to the layout and features. e.g. if I click it I see my profile, someone else clicks on it they see their profile etc etc.
If you want to share your profile with others, click on Profile from the menu and look at the url under your photo, it will look something like ...
https://fi.linkedin.com/in/username/¥ga/rba/ge*
By default Linkedin urls come with garbage after the user name. Google search how to shorten a LinkedIn url to make your url more presentable / professional or check this...
