If my passport will be in hold while Extending my residency

Hi everyone,

I have 1 year resedincy (type A, family ties) which will be expired next March and will need to extend it.

My question is how long will take in order to extend it? (I live in helsinki) and
Will they hold my passport during the process?

When you go to the police station to extend your RP, they don't hold your passport. They just scan it, verify it, and return it to you.

Have they changed the system recently? I applied for extension a few years ago and they took my passport along with other documents.

I applied for my extension last year, they took it for a few minutes and then returned it. They might have changed the system, I don't know.

This was pre RP card time? When they put the RP into your passport?

End of of 2011 i think, they had sticker at that time.

Back in the day they needed to keep your passport to attach the residence permit to it. Nowadays you get RP card, they don't need the passport for anything else than to check who you are.

The new card period is from beginning of 2012 onwards. I don't know how long they had been issuing stickers before that.
