Post by laurajbj85 » Thu Oct 08, 2015 12:37 pm

I am looking for a Finnish course for beginners for free or with a small fee to pay...I know there are more than a few but the fees are quite expensive (200 euros)...I meant something a bit cheeper actually...thank you! :)

Are you a resident? There are free courses for residents in Helsinki and other cities in Finland.

Here is a search engine for Finnish courses that also lists the prices along with the results. It may not cover all available courses, but the list is pretty extensive:

Search for your local kansalaisopisto (~community college), they offer all kinds of courses from handicrafts to yoga to language courses. Good search words to similar places are aikuisopisto and työväenopisto.

Most kansalaisopisto seem to offer beginner's courses for Finnish (like here in Pori), but in some towns you can find also advanced courses. I don't know where you live, but as an example for prices: the beginner's Finnish in Pori Otsolan kansalaisopisto, is 20 eur. There are generally no limitations for age or home county, and all courses in all kansalaisopisto are usually very reasonably priced or cheap.
