No. You apply for a new residence permit
I guess I thought that due to the long processing times, If I were to apply say after 3yrs 10months, that by the time they got to it, it would have been 4 years :).
If I were to change my next permit to a B permit after having submitted a citizenship application based on the previous A-permit, how would that affect my application if at all?
Thanks

You must have A or P permit when they make a decision on your application
Edellytyksenä on, että hakija on oleskellut Suomessa jatkuvalla oleskeluluvalla vähintään vuoden välittömästi ennen hakemuksen ratkaisemista.

Hi People!
this question is for those who applied online:

what period of taking decision between those 2 Events:

DAY X - in Progress - Hakemuksesi käsittely on alkanut. Yhteydenotot eivät nopeuta hakemuksen käsittelyä. Jos tarvitsemme sinulta lisätietoja, pyydämme niitä sinulta tämän palvelun kautta.

and

DAY Y - decision is done - Hakemukseesi on tehty päätös.Päätös on luettavissa käyttäjätililläsi.Olet vastaanottanut päätöksen.

Are u in the stage: in progress? if yes,it has no specific period, sometimes it can be a few days or a week or a month or two months depending on the handler of the file and your prompt response to additional documents request.

hello everybody_

do someone know what exactly do the migri authorities check during the time of applications recognition?
do they request any authorities about criminal records or fiscal records? i thought that infinland everything is electronically and at migri they have an access to every record in Finland, isnt it?
Why it takes some days? normally if everything is ok - must be given a green lite at once? or are there any possibilities that the application could be rejected?

Do you have the permanent residence card or is it the sticker on your passport? If you have the residence card, I don't think it is any crime to have the expired passport.
If you have a permanent residence permit and your passport expires, you do not need to re-apply for a residence permit. However, you must apply for a residence permit card at a police station. The residence permit card is proof of your right to reside in Finland.
