Life Before Registered Right of Residence (EU)

Another update: It's been well over a week and I haven't heard back from S-Pankki or DNA yet. I decided to get a DNA "super" prepaid sim card, which is currently sold for €4,90 at R-Kioski, and can be used with unlimited data for under 20€ per month. I may not even bother with the DNA contract now. As for S-Pankki, I'll wait a few more days (I don't really need the account urgently), but if I were to chose again, and especially if I didn't already have a € account, I'd probably visit a few different banks or branches, and ask whether they'd be prepared to open an account for me right away. S-Pankki appealed to me as I had already had an account with a cooperative in the UK, because it's free, and because it includes the S-etukortti, but I'm a bit underwhelmed by their service so far.

I did manage to get an HSL card, I needed the Maistraatti letter and my ID card for it. I've now also received my residence permit by post.

Yeah I'm sorted out now, it was easy after we were actually allowed to see the correct person, just annoying that it took 8 visits. My bank, Danske (who turned down my custom for a current account over four visits before finally accepting me) thankfully opened me an account prior to getting my registration, they were happy just with a temporary number from the magistrates office. I wouldn't have got a current account form them despite having hundreds of thousands to pay in because they wanted evidence of regular income, if id' had a million pound they still wouldnt have opened me a current account - 'doesnt meet their requirements' however when a Finn is involved their requirements disappear, eventually my partner opened an account and a mortgage on the basis that they would also give me a current account.

I DO like the way your ID number does everything here, with almost everyone. The UK situation of having to have 3 utility bills, in your name, with you to 'rent a car' or anything else that requires a signature is absurd. ID number is much more sensible as 'proof of address' and when you move you dont have to write to 15 companies with proof of the new address that you do'nt even have utility bills for yet. Mail is automaticaly forwarded to a new address for the first month too.
