Helsinki Vegetable Box Scheme?

Post by Querfeldein » Mon Oct 12, 2015 11:00 am

I'd be interested in getting a weekly vegetable box in Helsinki (Taka Töölö area, in case it matters). Do you have any recommendations?

There's already a thread in this forum on this very topic, but it's from 2008 and the two places mentioned appear to no longer offer vegetable boxes.

Not sure if there are any vegetable boxes, have not heard about them in Finland but there is

home delivery of small producers:

and organic food circle (ruokapiiri):

Thanks, inkku!

From what I could find on the first website, what comes closest to the veg box I had in mind are the Anton & Anton bags, but they also contain meat and fish, which would be wasted on me. Anton & Anton have the same offer on their website, and the content of the bag seem to be tied in with recipes, but I might still ask in the shop whether they'd do a vegetarian version.

The organic food circle, on the other hand, looks really promising. I'll try to get some more information, and maybe join up. You aren't already a member by any chance?

Sorry I don't have own experience, too much distance, but that ruokapiiri looks interesting.

I'm going to pay them a visit this evening. I'll let you know how it goes...

Ok, the food circle was great; vegetables and fruits at prices similar to, or even cheaper than, my local Alepa, but much nicer. Also, a selection of other organic products at very fair prices. The people I met were very friendly - the kind you expect at a place like this, bourgeois bohemian, but then that label probably more or less fits me as well. I've already signed up and look forward to collecting my first bag next week. All the ordering is done online, a few days in advance, but there is no commitment, no minimum purchase or subscription fee. There are also a few pickup points outside Kallio, but these are private, and you have to be invited to join - for me, Kallio works well.
