Re: Does knowing Finnish guarantee anything?
You have quite specific questions for someone who is just curious.
Re: Does knowing Finnish guarantee anything?
It makes no difference once your in the country legally.Hyyrynen wrote: what would it be like if I also held a EU/Schengen passport? How many doors would open? What would it be like?
Thanks.
Actually if you hold an EU passport , its like saying "possible retard".

Isn't it funny how everyone on the forum will rub it in your face for newcomers how they must absolutely know Finnish or they will never get a job, but when somebody says they do speak and know it, you still get replies that it probably won't help much or will lead to a dead end job. So what the hell people? Nothing you know or do will lead to success according to some folks here...
Just go and try see how it goes, apply to some jobs from home country. I think knowing Finnish is a massive advantage that would reduce culture shock and open more doors. Also would you mind sharing what methods you used to learn? I bet you had some future plans and not just randomly decided to use your free time on a random language that happened to be Finnish...

Re: Does knowing Finnish guarantee anything?
It is all relative.
Finnish + great qualifications in a sought after profession = probably a job
No Finnish, but ace programmer, software developer etc. = probably a job
No Finnish + no qualifications = probably no job
Finnish but no qualifications = possibly a menial job
Transfer by your company + no Finnish = probably great job, nice ex pat package, good salary........

I took away large parts of this thread, as you can see. Please keep it civil from now on.

Re: Does knowing Finnish guarantee anything?
Its more important for the country to become a "good earner"
I wonder that the vast majority of integrated persons are polished to hard with the Finnish brush which is creating the very thing thats causing the situation.
ie ~Flocks of Finnish speaking masters with no ability to support a real business in a competitive market.
If Finnish market is so small, why create Finnish robots.
